Call for Papers

General Information

The annual MIVELSA conference provides a leading forum for research spanning malware intelligence, vulnerability evaluation, and logic‑driven security analysis. It brings together experts from academia, industry, and government to share innovative work that unites empirical studies of cyber threats with formal and logical methods, strengthening the foundations of secure and resilient information systems. MIVELSA is organized by the Special Interest Group Logic‑Empirical Cybersecurity Study Group (LECS) of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ). The conference proceedings will appear in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Topics of Interest

MIVELSA welcomes submissions in areas including, but not limited to:

Malware Intelligence

  • Static/dynamic/behavioral malware analysis
  • Malware classification, clustering, and evasion studies
  • Botnet, ransomware, and APT investigations
  • Threat intelligence extraction and ML‑based detection

Vulnerability Evaluation

  • Software vulnerability discovery, analysis, and exploitation
  • Automated detection via static, dynamic, or hybrid methods
  • Attack surface assessment and system weakness analysis
  • Vulnerabilities in OS, networks, IoT, cloud, and embedded systems

Logical Security Analysis

  • Formal methods for security verification
  • Model checking, theorem proving, and logical reasoning
  • Formal verification of software, protocols, and system properties
  • Static analysis, type systems, and abstract interpretation

Cross‑Cutting Themes

  • Integrating formal methods with malware or vulnerability research
  • Logic‑driven threat modeling and defense strategies
  • AI/ML for automated reasoning and threat analysis
  • Cyber threat intelligence, datasets, and reproducible research

Papers will be judged on novelty, significance, correctness, and clarity. We expect all papers to provide enough details to enable reproducibility of the experimental results. We encourage papers that bridge research in different communities. We also welcome experience papers that clearly articulate lessons learnt.

Types of Submissions Solicited

MIVELSA solicits full papers presenting novel and mature research results. Papers are limited to 25 pages total in Springer LNCS format, with a maximum of 18 pages for the main paper content, 5 pages for the bibliography, and 2 pages for appendices. For the initial submission, authors are encouraged to start the bibliography and appendices, if any, each on a new page.

Papers that do not follow the above formatting guidelines may be rejected without review.

Submission Guidelines

MIVELSA 2026 will adopt a double-blind reviewing process. All submissions should be appropriately anonymized. Author names and affiliations must be excluded from the paper. Furthermore, authors should avoid obvious self-references, and should cite their own previous work in third person, whenever necessary. Papers that are not properly anonymized risk being rejected without review.

Submissions must represent original research and must not be under review or consideration at any other venue during the evaluation period. For each accepted paper, at least one author is strictly required to attend the conference in person and deliver the presentation; failure to do so will result in the paper being excluded from the proceedings.

Authors are encouraged to submit artifacts (e.g., code, datasets) appropriately anonymized, using, e.g.,

Anonymous GitHub

Use of Generative AI

The role of AI in research is evolving, and its use must be handled with clarity and integrity. Generative AI tools may be used within a defined methodology, to improve manuscript presentation, or to create artifacts that authors independently verify. However, delegating research content or paper writing to AI, or presenting unverified AI‑generated artifacts, is not permitted. When AI use falls outside these explicit cases, authors must disclose it at submission with detail proportional to the amount of AI‑generated content.

Ethical considerations

Research may lead to unintended harm, and authors are responsible for anticipating and mitigating potential negative consequences arising from both the conduct and publication of their work. Submissions may be rejected, regardless of technical merit, if ethical issues are not adequately addressed. For work involving human subjects, data derived from humans, risks to individuals, or other ethical implications, authors must disclose whether an ethics review (e.g., IRB approval) was obtained and explain how ethical and legal concerns were handled. IRB exemptions alone may not sufficiently mitigate ethical risks. For papers describing high‑impact vulnerabilities, authors should report the issue responsibly or outline their disclosure plan. The chairs may contact authors if concerns arise.

If you have any questions, please contact the program chairs at pc-chairs@mivelsa.org.

Call for Poster

Important Dates (AoE)

  • Rolling Submission Period: 25 May 2026 - 25 August 2026
  • Notification: Rolling, as submissions are reviewed
  • Camera-ready: 17 September 2026

Submission Guidelines

Poster submissions must include two components: the poster draft and an accompanying poster paper. The poster paper should be at least 4 pages, but no more than 6 pages long, formatted according to the Springer LNCS guidelines, and this page count includes the bibliography and any appendices. Proposals are not anonymized and must clearly state the authors' names, affiliations, and contact information. The poster papers will be published in the proceedings. Please ensure that the title of the poster paper begins with the word "Poster:".
Posters should be submitted through the link below:

Review Process

This year, MIVELSA will use a rolling review process for poster submissions. Submissions received during the period May 25 2026 to August 25 2026 will be reviewed as they come in. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection shortly after their submission is evaluated. As a reminder, posters must not be submitted for work that has already been accepted as a full paper in the main conference.

Poster Preparation Instructions

Authors presenting in the Poster Session are kindly requested to prepare their posters following the specifications below:
  • Poster Size: 160 cm (height) × 60 cm (width)
  • Material: Printed on PP (Polypropylene), a durable, lightweight thermoplastic material known for its excellent ink adhesion and high-quality finish. PP is commonly used for digital printing in professional displays and advertising materials.
  • Mounting: Please ensure that your poster has four punched holes (one at each corner) to facilitate mounting on the display board provided by the organizers.
  • Additional Notes:

  • Posters should be visually clear, concise, and readable from a distance of about 1 meter.
  • Please include the paper title, authors, and affiliations at the top of your poster.
  • You may include key figures, tables, and results to effectively summarize your work.
  • Authors are expected to be present during their assigned poster session to discuss their research with attendees.
